One of my favorite bloggers and internet friends is Alece Ronzino (www.gritandglory.com). Every time she posts I find myself saying, “She. Is. Me!” Alece and I have journeyed a similar path. I LOVE the way she walks out her story with much vulnerability and humility. We also find ourselves in a similar life stage: around the same age, not married and neither one of us have kids. Alece led a non-profit in Africa for 13 years and is the founder of One Word 365. She is also living out one of my real estate goals as an AirBnB host and also owns the Nashville Tiny House. (Hint: If you find yourself in Nashville, needing a place to crash, she has options for you!)
Alece’s post from this week spoke directly to my heart and I know it will speak to yours too! She graciously allowed me to repost on SimplySara. Enjoy!
Six Word Memoirs
(Originally appeared on 8.22.16 at www.gritandglory.com/blog/six-word-memoirs)
A friend recently challenged me (along with everyone else on her email list) to tell my story in only six words.
Dang, right?!
Reading Hemingway’s stirring response reminded me yet again of the unbelievable power of words.
While I may be slow to find my own words these days, I figured I could find six.
So I spent a while pondering different elements of my journey and ways I could boil who I am and where I’ve been and what I want down to only six words. Here is my collection of six-word memoirs:
- Unraveled, only to be rewoven. Again.
- Worth it, but I didn’t know.
- Can’t just one thing be easy?
- If only I’d known then, I’d…
- My heart condition: best/worst metaphor.
- Wanting to be Velveteen-rabbit loved.
- Eat carbs. Drink bourbon. Laugh loudly.
- Heartsore and exhausted, inside and out.
- Broken, but I’m okay… always okay.
- Not knowing is all I know.
- Love and be loved: nothing less.
- Learning to embrace uncertainty. And failing.
- Home is more than a feeling.
- Though it’s difficult: Relationship > being right.
- Why I can’t have nice things.
- Always more question marks than periods.
- Fall down. Get back up. Repeat.
- Living loved feels impossible. Is it?
- Give until empty; then give more.
- I’m a roots and wings girl.
- Africa will always have my heart.
- Courage feels a lot like fear.
- Life’s hard. Hold hands, go together.
- Autumn’s reminder: there’s beauty in brokenness.
- No really… Are we there yet?
How about you? How would you write your story in only six words? I’d love to hear your six-word memoir(s).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I pondered a LOT after I read this post about what my six word memoir(s) would be. And it’s HARD, y’all! HARD. But here are a few that tell my story:
- Found contentment after a broken heart.
- Comfortable. Broken. Wrecked. Content. Living fully.
- Saved by grace. Grateful for mercy.
- Worked harder than I could imagine.
- Embracing the unknown for greatest reward!
- Trying to make the world better.
- Love does. Love will. Love can.
- Restoring dignity where it was lost.
- Extroverted introvert. Outgoing, but needs quiet.
- Simplifying all things. Life is short.
- Grateful. Joyous. Driven. Never settling. Never.
Can you come up with a six word memoir or two? I’d LOVE for you to share in the comments below. (And you can find Alece on social media @aleceronzino. She’s a gem and you will love her.)
